18 Jun FORGET COUNTING 1000 STEPS, FOCUS ON BRISK WALKING FOR BIGGEST BENEFIT
Focus on brisk walking, rather than just counting steps, is the message Thriving Workplaces are encouraging residents to act on over the summer to improve their health.
Brisk walking is the chosen activity to support an estimated 3 million middle-aged adults that are physically inactive across the country. Thriving Workplaces are supporting the Public Health England and the Royal College of GPs Active 10 campaign.
Moderate intensity physical activity means getting the heart rate up and breathing faster. Just 10 minutes of brisk walking a day is an easy way for adults to introduce more moderate intensity physical activity into their day. Brisk walking can reduce the risk of early death by up to 15%.
